Chairman Setoguchi and Executive Director Fukano attending the online presentation ceremony
On December 8, OGFICE held a presentation ceremony for the grant it provided to the University of Malaysia, Sarawak (UNIMAS). The foundation has provided UNIMAS with scholarships and research grants on the themes of energy and the global environment.
The spread of COVID-19 prevented participants in the presentation ceremony from gathering at the university again this fiscal year, and so it was held online as in fiscal 2020.
From UNIMAS, the event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Dr Siti Noor Linda, Associate Professor Dr. Abdullah Bin Hj Yassin , researchers who had received grants on the six research themes, and 12 scholarship students. From OGFICE, Chairman Tetsuo Setoguchi and Executive Director Yukiyoshi Fukano attended.
At the presentation ceremony, researchers who had received the experiment and research grants first made presentations on their research themes. A question-and-answer session followed, where lively discussions took place. Although held online, these presentations turned out to be very fruitful.
Next, grant certificates were presented to the 12 scholarship students. Then, to conclude the presentation ceremony, Chairman Setoguchi made a speech, saying, "Let me express my respect for your constant efforts," "Material support is meaningful, but support for ambitious young people means a lot more. I believe it opens endless possibilities for the development of the two countries through the enhancement of individuals abilities, the advancement of science and technology, and international exchange," and "I hope you will make the best use of this grant to develop your abilities and contribute to the development of Malaysia and its science and technology, and to international exchange."
OGFICE also held online meetings with UNIMAS as required to grasp the current situation and needs, and to exchange information and opinions, while deepening mutual understanding.
This fiscal year, OGFICE gave grants of about 4.4 million yen to UNIMAS. The foundation is planning to provide a similar amount next fiscal year, too.
