Osaka Gas Group Named a CDLI Company for its Excellence in Information Disclosure

The Osaka Gas Group has been selected a company among 24 businesses in Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (“CDLI”). The group of entities, recognized by CDP(*1) as outstanding, is chosen among 500 selected Japanese companies for information disclosure on business strategy and performance for climate change.

CDP, an international not-for-profit organization, requests more than 5,000 selected companies all over the world including 500 top Japanese ones to disclose data and their activities regarding corporate strategy, approaches and performance for climate change. Based on companies’ responses, CDP annually discloses its analysis report and selects companies for its indices for the world including the 24 Japanese companies this year.

Since the formation of its Environmental Activities Policy in 1992, the Osaka Gas Group has actively made efforts to mitigate its businesses’ impacts on the environment to realize a sustainable society. The initiatives of the group include reducing greenhouse gas emission by converting unused energy to power by utilizing cryogenic energy of LNG at LNG terminals and promoting wide-spread use of eco-friendly gas systems such as fuel cells and cogeneration systems. Furthermore, the Osaka Gas Group has sought new business opportunities in renewable energy and use of the smart energy network.(*2)

*2: The smart energy network is a next generation energy system that optimizes energy use of power and heat by combining gas cogeneration systems, renewable energies and information and communications technology (ICT). Osaka Gas participated in the demonstration project held by the Ministry of economy, Trade and Industry. Making use of these experiment results, Osaka Gas established a smart energy network in Osaka City and commenced electricity supply in June 2013.
