Osaka Gas selected for the DJSI World Index for the first time

Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. (Takehiro Honjo, President), has been selected for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the first time, as well as Asia/Pacific Index for the ninth consecutive year.

 

Those are the socially responsible investment*1 (SRI) indexes of the companies, announced on September 11, 2017, which S&P Dow Jones & Company, Inc.*2 in the United States and RobecoSAM*3 based in Switzerland developed in 1999. Under the circumstances where an increasing number of investors take company's sustainability in consideration for their investment in addition to financial state, DJSI is leading SRI index which investors utilize as one of evaluation criteria for investment.

 

In 2017, 319 companies among about 3,500 companies have been selected as the World Index. Selected gas companies include Osaka Gas and Gas Natural, Spain, while Japanese companies selected in the index reached 32.

 

We recognize that our efforts on management and accountability for the environment, society and governance in line with global/domestic reporting guidelines as well as 10 principles of the Global Compact*4 have been highly evaluated.

 

Osaka Gas intends to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society through successful achievement of its long term management vision toward 2030 and medium-term management plan toward 2020, “Going Forward Beyond Borders”.

 

  

 
  • *1: “Socially Responsible Investment” is an investment strategy which aims for both financial growth and social good. Social responsibility includes addressing issues involved with societal aspects including compliance, human rights, labor, product responsibility, environment, community contribution and governance.
 
  • *2: It was established in 1882 and is the world's largest, global resource for index-based concepts, data and researches which provides iconic financial market indicators, such as the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
 
  • *3: It was established in 1995 and offers asset management, indices, and so on exclusively on sustainability investment.
 
  • *4: An initiative proposed by then U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan at the 1999 World Economic Forum, which calls for businesses corporations to observe 10 principles concerning human rights, labor, the environment, and the prevention of corruption. Osaka Gas incorporated its principles into the Osaka Gas Group Code of Conduct and CSR-Based Purchasing Guidelines.
