Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. (Osaka Gas) has entered into agreement to invest in WiL Fund II, L.P. (WiL Fund II), a U.S.-based venture investment fund run by WiL, LLC (WiL), a venture capital firm based in Silicon Valley, U.S.
WiL was founded in 2013 and has since succeeded in businesses of investing in startups and creating new businesses in partnership with major Japanese firms with its great expertise in IoT, web-service technologies, and various services. WiL also provides services of human resource development needed to promote innovation. WiL Fund II is a venture investment fund, in which more than 15 major innovation-oriented Japanese companies invest.
Through involvement in WiL Fund II, Osaka Gas aims to invest in and collaborate with startups based mainly in Japan and the U.S. and accelerate innovative development for its energy businesses, leveraging WiL’s expertise of new business creation, to provide customers with higher value-added life services and business solutions featuring digital technologies such as IoT and AI, and to establish advanced infrastructure operation system with cutting-edge technologies.
As stated in its long-term management vision “Going Forward Beyond Borders 2030,” the Daigas Group is committed to providing products and services that go beyond customer expectations with state-of-the-art technologies and advanced methods. In April 2018, Osaka Gas established Innovation Headquarters to promote new business model development and operational reforms.
