Methasolution(R), a high-efficiency anaerobic digestion technology utilizing hyper thermophilic bacteria

Overview

The anaerobic digestion technology has drawn public attention as means to extract biogas from waste-based biomass such as garbage and food waste. Osaka Gas developed an high temperature solubilizing technology (Methasolution(R)) to improve the conventional anaerobic digestion technology. After biogas is extracted with the anaerobic digestion technology, residue is solubilized by hyper thermophilic microorganisms to produce biogas. Methasolution offers many advantages, including increase in biogas production, reduction in residue generated, and reduction in the amount of wastewater treatment, among others. In addition, biodegradable garbage bags can be decomposed in a short period of time.

For example, if this technology is introduced to a waste disposal facility to treat garbage collected by a local government, the renewable energy recovery rate from garbage improves by recovering biogas with high efficiency and by generating electricity with a gas engine, compared with incineration of garbage in an incinerator. To treat 60 tons of garbage per day, CO2 emissions can be reduced by 2,900 tons annually.
