In-pipe Camera with Water Extraction Function
Pipeline & Facilities Engineering Dept.
Pipeline Business Unit

Overview

We have developed an in-pipe camera with water extraction function, which can be used for small-diameter pipes and is the first camera of its kind in the gas industry. This camera, while monitoring the internal conditions of a gas pipeline, extracts water that has entered the gas pipe.

Water that has entered a gas pipeline can accumulate in a pipe and obstruct the passage of gas, resulting in failure to supply gas. In the past, in such a case, an in-pipe camera with water extraction function for main pipeline (conventional type) was used for restoration. For the use of the camera in small-diameter pipes, there were demands from the field staff for features such as no need for cutting a pipe for the insertion of the camera and capability to pass through bends in piping.

To meet these demands, we have made efforts to miniaturize the camera with water extraction function and improved the ease of operation of the insertion mechanism. The result is the development of an in-pipe camera with water extraction function that can be used in small-diameter pipes with bends.

System Configuration

Features

  • Work with no need to cut the pipe
The system allows the operator to monitor internal conditions of pipes and carry out water extraction without interrupting gas supply, thereby reducing inconvenience to customers.
  • Capability of passing through bends in pipeline
Water that has entered a pipeline tends to accumulate at a step in the pipeline. This system extracts such water efficiently.
  • Low cost
A commercially available camera is incorporated to reduce overall cost.

Specifications

  • Intended gas pipes: 50 to 80 mm in inside diameter
  • Investigation/extraction coverage: 18 m (straight pipe) or 10 m (pipe with two bends) in one direction in a live pipe*
  • Extraction capacity: 400 cc/min*
  • Light source for illumination: high-intensity white LED
  • Option: model with a separated extraction hose

*These are maximum values and subject to change with operating conditions.
