Medium-Pressure Live Cast-Iron Pipeline Shutoff Technique
Pipeline & Facilities Engineering Dept. Pipeline Business Unit

General

The technique for shutting off a live pipeline gas not available for cast-iron pipelines of medium-pressure B, which has made it difficult to do some work to an existing line in which it was not possible to reduce the gas pressure. Additionally, an effective technique of shutting off a line pipeline will help to crease a lager market for co-generation systems with an increase of industrial users. In response to such needs, Osaka Gas has developed a technique of shutting off cast-iron live pipelines.

Principle of shutting off

A shut-off element of a rubber seal mechanism with a spring is inserted after the pipe is perforated using a live-pipe perforating machine. After insertion into the pipe, the shut-off element is turned by 90 degrees and the seal rubber is pressed, by expansion of the spring, and comes into full contact with the pipe wall. Thus the gas flow is completely shut off.

Work Procedure

Application

Type of pipe GM II ductile cast-iro pipe 150mm,200mm,300mm
Scope of work 1Pipeline relocation, valve insertion partial replacement of pipeline

Points in development

Shut-off element It should be possible to insert shut-off element into pipeline through perforated hole of diameter smaller than pipes inside diameter. Mechanical seal type. It should be possible to shut off even flattened pipe.
