Management Approach

Fundamental concept

Through the provision of products and services, including natural gas, the Daigas Group is committed to reducing the environmental impact of business activities. By harmonizing its business activities with the environment, the Group will strive to create a sustainable society.

Environmental conservation on a local and a global scale is an extremely important mission for the Daigas Group, whose operations center on the energy business. In accordance with the “Daigas Group Environmental Activities Policy” we established in FY2007, the Daigas Group is lessening the environmental impact of its business activities through the provision of natural gas and other products and services. And through our business activities, we contribute to environmental improvement and the development of sustainable societies locally, nationally, and internationally by pursuing harmony with the environment and making efficient use of energy and resources.

Environmental Management Indicator: Environmental Management Efficiency

Osaka Gas uses “environmental management efficiency” as an indicator to assess progress in environmental management in a continuous, integrated manner. This indicator is the total monetary value of seven environmental impacts* per gas produced. The smaller the figure for environmental management efficiency, the greater the reduction in environmental impact per amount of gas produced.

* Environmental impacts
GHG emissions, NOx emissions, emissions of COD (chemical oxygen demand), final disposal of general / industrial waste, final disposal of excavated soil, chemical emissions, use of water supply and industrial water

Targets and results

The environmental management efficiency for FY2018 was given as 11.6 yen / 1,000 m³, showing smooth progress toward achieving the target set for FY2021.

Targets* Results
Environmental Management Efficiency 14.2 yen / 1,000 m³ or less 11.6 yen / 1,000 m³

* Target set for FY2021

Actions taken

Approach to reducing environmental impact to improve “Environmental Management Efficiency”

At the Himeji LNG Terminal, an expanded cryogenic power generation facility began operating in March 2017, contributing to a decrease in electricity procurement for city gas production. In our office buildings, we have stepped up power-saving, including switching to LED lights in offices, as part of the “Green Gas Buildings” activities.

All employees of the Daigas Group have worked on reducing the environmental impact of their respective business activities by operating the Environmental Management System (EMS) toward the ultimate goal of cutting overall greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In addition, we have reduced the environmental impact of business activities by recycling drilling soil discharged during the gas pipelines works. Consequently, the Environmental Management Efficiency for FY2018 came to 11.6 yen / 1,000 m³.
